A Labor Day of Love, GDSX Helps Katrina Survivors
On Saturday, September 3, 2005, GDSX held a company-wide garage sale,
with all proceeds going to benefit Hurricane Katrina Victims. The sale
was very successful, raising over $1700 in cash. Some of that cash will
be used to buy necessities for Hurricane Katrina victims currently
living in the shelter provided at Dallas' Reunion Arena. The remainder
of the money, as well as all employee donations and GDSX company
matching, is being donated to the American Red Cross. GDSX urges it's
customers and friends to do what they can to help these Katrina
victims. Please contact the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army for information on how you can help.
Scroll down to view pictures from the GDSX Garage Sale. Unfortunately,
our roving photographers, Becky and Jon, were so busy that we did not
get pictures of all the employees helping. However, here are a few of
the pictures we did get.
Nicole Brigger and Lynda Smith organize clothing before the sale.
Chris Kolb organizes clothing before the sale.
Jon Farrier passes out water on a VERY hot day.
Getting things organized was a chore, but everyone pitched in.
Chris Erichson (Chris3), Nicole, and Sean Tovson discuss the best way to layout the clothes.
We posted signs (even though we got in trouble for it!) to attract as many people as possible.
The toy area is huge.
Thanks to the GDSX employees and spouses, everything is ready to go!
The signs worked! There was no place to park even before the sale opened.
It was packed from the moment we opened the gates.
One very generous employee donated this brand new stereo system. It was one of the very first items to go.
Nicole works hard as the cashier for the morning, with a very long line waiting.
Chris3 tests this donated TV for an anxious customer.
Becky Strahan gives Nicole a hand at the cashier table. She could use a break, huh?
Mark Sternitzke (Mark2), Mark Schulte (Mark1), and Chris3 enjoy a breather from non-stop customer questions!
Becky and Nicole are glad for the lull in the crowd.
Mark1's family shows up to do a little shopping. That's Laura and Marina.
That's Steve Smith, getting directions to the shelter where we'll donate all remaining items to after the sale.
Are they playing or working? Chris3 and Steve put together a kids puzzle.
Jon, Román Pacheco, and Steve reorganize what's left of the clothes for the last few hours of the sale.
Reinforcements have arrived! Becky is thrilled to turn over the cashier table to Kristen Pacheco and Michelle Walker.
It's almost the end of the day and things are winding down. Where did all the toys go?
We had a lot of fun and raised a lot of money. All remaining garage sale items were donated to Katrina victims staying at a nearby hotel and a Plano, TX shelter.
